More and more Vermonters are working to 'relocalize' their communities, which means they are working to produce more food, energy and goods locally. Many relocalization efforts are aimed at increasing community energy security by advancing strategies to generate, collaborate or save energy at the local level. Other relocalization efforts, which also save energy and help minimize greenhouse gas emissions, are focused on building community food networks, strengthening local economies, and protecting and enhancing the environment and shared community resources. The goal of relocalization is to make communities and individuals as self-supporting and independent as possible on a variety of fronts.
