The Energy Committee began meeting only as necessary as we addressed a series of projects which included the following:
• The Vermont Community Energy Mobilization Project Specially trained volunteers from the Committee visited approximately 35 homes in Lincoln. In addition to installing free CFL light bulbs, low-flow shower and faucet fixtures, and insulating jackets for water heaters, these volunteers also did informal energy use assessments and offered advice about ways to follow up on opportunities for further energy savings.
• Button Up Vermont The Committee joined with the Bristol Energy Committee to organize and publicize a well attended meeting held in Bristol, where experts from Efficiency Vermont demonstrated how to realize significant energy savings through a few relatively simple do-it-yourself fixes.
• Energy Expo At display tables in the Mt. Abe gym and at the Harvest Festival on the Bristol Green, members of the Committee distributed information about our mission and programs, as well as brochures about local energy contractors and ways to apply for financial help for home heating and home energy improvements.
• Lincoln Community Woodbank The Committee provided an emergency supply of free cordwood for Lincoln residents in temporary urgent need. The wood was stacked for anonymous pickup at the old town shed on East River Road. The Committee also provided free delivery for several residents unable to get the wood themselves.
• Educational Presentations at the Lincoln Library Mike Moriarty spoke on solar hot water systems; Lawrence Mott spoke on the wind power.
• Presentation at the Lincoln Community School The Committee wrote & performed a hilarious skit to demonstrate to students how CO2 causes global warming and what humans can do to cut emissions.
• Efficiency Improvements at Town Office Building The Committee organized a work day to complete insulation of the floor and radiant heat in the Town Office.
