Here is a list of completed and planned projects:

  • Initiated a project to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions in fifteen municipal and school buildings through a performance contract with Honeywell, Inc. The project will save at least $130,000 annually in reduced energy costs and 746 tons of CO2 emissions.
  • Working with Brattleboro Thermal Utility, Inc. to develop a plan to create a biomass district energy system for Brattleboro.
  • Participating in the Vermont Community Energy Mobilization Project – a community-based effort that trained 40 local volunteers in 2009 to conduct approximately 100 free home energy visits in the Brattleboro area.
  • Collaborated with two other Vermont energy organizations on a “Mow Down Pollution” lawnmower exchange program in five Vermont locations in spring 2009.
  • Launched the 10% Challenge Campaign, a program to raise awareness about global climate change and to achieve a 10% reduction in energy consumption and emissions through increased efficiency. Approximately 25 local businesses have signed up for the Challenge.
  • Launched a no-idling campaign - successfully advocating for passage of a resolution by the town Selectboard, and posting no-idling signs in key areas of town.
  • Organized a series of energy-efficiency and renewable energy workshops for commercial facilities managers, business owners, landlords, and homeowners.
  • Sponsored an ongoing film series at Brooks Memorial Library - "Sustainable Choices" - highlighting stories of people creating environmentally friendly solutions in their business and communities.
  • Created a Sustainable Business Awards program.
  • Collaborating with the Brattleboro Planning Services Department and the Vermont Natural Resources Council on a project to make energy a strong element in the 2011 Town Plan.
  • Organized energy fairs and other public events to educate Brattleboro residents about the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy.
  • Researching the possibility of creating a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) district in Brattleboro.
